- Probably should have updated earlier. Didn't. What are you going to do, sue us? You can't sue us. You don't have any money. We can do anything we want. Anyway, two big trips to talk about since last time. First off was Chicago, Illinois the weekend of June 26 & 27. Scott Henson and Yakuza travelled to BWA for their 5th Anniversary Show subtitled "Supercard of Destiny". Their match on Day 1 was actually supposed to take place back in January at Beyond Wrestling but couldn't due to a scheduling conflict with EVOLVE Wrestling. But luckily it was able to happen here as Henson and Yakuza took on Aeroform, the team of LK2000 and Shocker333. After nearly half an hour of action, and an apron-to-floor Northern Lights Bomb by Yakuza on LK, Henson and Shocker were left in the ring. After a struggle on the top rope, Henson was able to hit the rarely seen and reserved-for-outsiders-except-Daniel-Makabe You Sunk the World for the big win. On Day 2, Henson and Yakuza took on the younger team of Shawn Phoenix and Sic Ric, fighting out of Pittsburgh and looking to make a name for themselves on the national stage. They sought to make an impression early, as they came out wearing old gear of Henson and Yakuza (Ric in a blue Hawaiian shirt and Phoenix in a pair of Yakuza's old tights). Late in the match, Shawn Phoenix knocked himself out taking Yakuza out of the match with a springboard dropkick to the apron, and Ric, after surviving a CRITICAL! from Henson, hit one of his own for what most would call a big upset win. Trip #2 saw the largest VCW contingent since BYWeek three years ago, as Scott Henson, Daniel Makabe, Yakuza J, and Drew Sarian (getting his VCW Intrepid Traveller Card for the first time) ventured to Pittsburgh, PA the weekend of July 24 & 25 for SWC's BYS (Backyard Supremacy) 5. Day 1 saw Scott Henson take on someone he met back in Chicago, "Shooter" Matt Knicks. Had the match been Falls Count Anywhere, Knicks likely would have taken the bout after a Trapper Keeper Bomb on the entrance ramp, but not long after, Knicks's Chicago rival, Domi, superkicked Knicks off the picnic table beside the ring, allowing Henson to capitalize and hit a CRITICAL! for what he thought was the win. Shooter was able to kick out but fell to a second CRITICAL! immediately after. In what ended up being the main event of Day 1, Yakuza J took on BSnow in another legend vs. up-and-comer type match. The legend prevailed in this instance, after Yakuza KILLED Snow with a series of kicks to the head. We say this ended up being the main event because the actual main of Daniel Makabe vs. Focalin (a.k.a. Shawn Phoenix) was scheduled to go on next but it decided to pour rain just before they went on. It was rescheduled as the opener of Day 2, where luckily, the weather decided to clear up. Makabe, having not wrestled since September 2009, looked none the worse for wear as he hit a Dan Spike off the picnic table to the ground on Focalin. When next they found themselves back up on the table, Makabe was able to hit a Trapper Keeper Bomb on table, smashing several of its boards, apparently a feat SWC has been trying to accomplish for years, but to no avail until today. This maneuver left Focalin unconscious and the drag back into the ring and the pinfall were academic. All in all, a successful Day 1 (and beginning of Day 2) for VCW. Another scheduled match that did not take place on Day 1 was Drew Sarian vs. The Chad, as Sarian was nursing a back injury going into the weekend. Nevertheless, he vowed to wrestle in his Day 2 match regardless of his condition. And what a Day 2 match it was. All 4 VCW members took on a GBYWN All-Star Team of sorts, consisting of Hack Edjamin, Robby Roberts, BSnow, and Joe Randa, representing Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, and Kentucky, respectively. It was a traditional 4-on-4 Survivor Series elimination match. It looked like VCW took the early advantage when Henson & Yakuza Double Bieled Robby Roberts into the entranceway, destroying it and taking Roberts out for a good amount of time. VCW was unable to capitalize and get any eliminations, however, and a very fired up Roberts came back, leading to the first elimination as BSnow hit an Indy Kick to Yakuza J on his knees, getting some revenge for his loss the day before. However, Snow turned around right into a Cat's Cradle from Henson, evening the numbers back up almost immediately. Continuing the trend of kicks to people on their knees, Drew Sarian blasted Robby Roberts with a superkick on his knees for the next elimination. However, before Sarian could even get back to his feet, Joe Randa came in with an even harder superkick and took Sarian out. This left 2-on-2, which didn't last too long, as Henson and Makabe took out Hack Edjamin with an Excommunication and hit a combo Powerbomb/Top-rope Sling Blade (normally a Makabe a Special K double-team) on Randa for the pin. Henson & Makabe looked to have it wrapped up on the much smaller Hack Edjamin as they went for their version of the Lychee Bomb Surprise, but Hack flipped out of the Trapper Keeper attempt by Makabe, and rolled Henson with a quick schoolboy for the pin. This left only him and Daniel Makabe, who went back and forth for several minutes, but after a second Armtrap STO (Hack's signature maneuver), Makabe went down the underdog, and Hack was heralded as the hometown hero (too many H's; I apologize). This left a disillusioned VCW to go home and "think about what they've done".
- As a side note, it was wonderful to meet all the new up-and-coming people in this wrestling scene at these shows. It was like we plugged in to a whole new community. Also, big thanks to everyone who housed us and drove us around on the trips. It is sincerely appreciated.
- As was promised with the huge media update last time, full matches are indeed getting commentated and will be ready to put up soon. We're about 40 matches in to the 90-odd matches we plan to do. When all is said and done, you'll have 30-40 hours of new, full, commentated matches to watch. You're welcome.
- Sorry again about the new picture on the front page. It's worse than the last one. Hopefully we can be rid of the ISUXDIX scourge by September. By the way, it's been a while since we've wrestled locally, eh?
