- As promised, here is the write-up for this past weekend's double-shot (April 1 & 2). Don't expect it to be as long as the last one, as the the succinctness bug has struck and struck hard. We were actually able to have more than one match on the first day of the double-shot, signifying that Jesus has lifted his curse from last week."Public Urination" Scott Henson got his first singles win in a while, defeating Sean Sylum with a CRITICAL! It looked grim after Sylum knocked Henson loopy with the Illegal Brain Strike, but Henson pulled out the win. The Ivy League of Extraordinary Gentlemen made their second VCW appearance, and remained undefeated with a win over Nick Price and Drew Sarian. The match was contested under "University Rules" (which they tried unsuccessfully to instate in their first match), meaning anything found in a classroom is legal. AC & Wordsworth got the win with their finisher, "Hittin' the Books", which is the Eliminatos' old Total Elimination, but with textbooks instead of kicks. This is, of course, only legal in University Rules matches, hence their insistence on those rules. In the main, Jacob Myles got his first ever shot at the VCW Triple Crown, and lost in a valiant effort to Lenny D, who took the win with a Makura Cutter (first time he has ended a match with it) and secured his 6th successful defense of the Triple Crown. That makes a total of 10 defenses for Lenny over his two Triple Crown reigns, which ties Daniel Makabe and Scott Henson, who also have a total of 10 defenses each. With one more defense, Lenny will be alone in first place. On the second day of the double-shot, VCW did the unthinkable and COMPLETED AN 8-MAN TOURNAMENT IN ONE DAY. It didn't really seem that hard, either. We did the whole thing in 3 or 4 hours. It made us wonder why the last 4 times we tried to do an 8-man tournament in one day, we've failed miserably. The best reason we came up with was that this tournament was booked the day of the show, thus precluding any no-shows. The only thing that could screw it up was injuries, and luckily we didn't have any. Anyway, April 2 was the first ever VCW Tournament for Nothing~! We've wanted to do one for a while, and finally did. In the first round, Daniel Makabe beat Jacob Myles by reversing the Myle High Club into the Makabe Lock, which he then turned into a crucifix-type pin. Nick Price was able to upset Zeus McFly with a Tiger Suplex, advancing himself in the tournament and most likely gaining himself a Canadian Title shot against McFly in the future. "Mr. Winnipeg" Ryan Briggs, with a cast on his injured wrist, did guest commentary for the Scott Henson/Big Al match, verbally blasting Al for denouncing his Winnipegan heritage. Briggs tried to trip Al with a hockey stick, but ended up tripping Henson, who was hit with the POUNCE and pinned. The Briggs/Al feud takes another turn. Plus, it's unknown if Al and Briggs will even be able to have a match to settle their differences in the near future, because Briggs is out for at least a few weeks with his wrist injury. The final first-round match was Lenny D taking on Pistol Pete Cruise, who agreed to defend his self-awarded BC Title, under BC Title rules of course. Pete also came out to AWESOME theme music (his standard "Come With Me" by Puff Daddy, mixed with former Attorney General and certified crazy asshole John Ashcroft's hilarious "Let the Eagle Soar"). Lenny got another win with the Makura Cutter, and was about to leave with the BC Title, when Matt Cruise, seconding Pete, consulted the Official BC Title Rule Book and discovered that BC Title matches must be signed 24 hours in advance, which this was not, AND that the BC Title cannot be defended in a tournament setting. Thus Pete keeps his title. So we get Daniel Makabe vs. Nick Price and Lenny D vs. Big Al in the Semifinals. If the two favourites, Lenny and Makabe, won, we'd see the first singles meeting between the two since 2002 (how they haven't fought in nearly 3 years is beyond me). First was Price vs. Makabe, and after Makabe reversed a Tope by Price by chucking him into the couch, it was all Makabe. He finished it off with a very unecessary TWO Trapper Keeper Bombs and a Makabe Lock. In the other semifinal, Lenny had the upper hand against Big Al, but as Lenny was coming off the top, Al creamed him with the POUNCE and got a clean pin on the Triple Crown Champion, proving that, given the right circumstances, anyone is beatable. Along with Nick Price getting a future title shot against Zeus McFly, Big Al surely will be getting a Triple Crown shot at some point. So it was Daniel Makabe vs. Big Al in the Finals in a rematch of their 2/5/05 Canadian Title match. This match saw the same result, as Makabe put Al away with the Makabe Lock, which had served him well all night. A good one-day performance for both men, with Al going 2-1 and Makabe going 3-0, proving that he is still on top of his game despite losing the Canadian Title two weeks ago. Hmm, that write-up was actually much longer than I was planning.

- Damn, a little lacking in the update department. We'll try to fix that. We have a guest write-up for LAST week's double shot below. The write for this past weekend's double-shot will be up in the next day or two. Anyway, enjoy the write-up:
This weekend another attempt at a double shot was squandered as Jesus cursed us allowing us to do just a two match show on Friday which included a sumo match. Note: don't do shows on Good Friday. Saturday however was a fully loaded card which included a return and a debut. In the opening promo Ryan Briggs denounced his jobber status and "Chris P. Nelson" gimmick, claiming to be Winnipeg's Greatest Athlete and calling out Big Al for denouncing his Manitobian heritage. The promo led right into a match between "Mr. Winnipeg" Ryan Briggs and Big Al, which was a short affair that ended after Briggs took advantage of the referee being Al Gored and he cross checked Big Al with a hockey stick for the win. The next match was Nick Price and the returning Johnny Testarossa in a competitive back and forth match. At one point Testarossa took advanatage and took some time out to shoot on Red Money as he attempted to use the Money in the Bank to finish off Nick Price but Price flipped out of it and into a Dragon Sleeper for the win. Testarossa is still without a win in VCW. Backstage, Pistol Pete Cruise cut a promo about Scott Henson holding him back and not giving him any title shots so he created a new title for himself, the BC Title, a belt he held during his tenure in the HWF. He stated that tonight would be the night he made a name for himself in VCW. Next up was Zeus McFly defending his newly won Canadian Title against Mr. Winnipeg Ryan Briggs, who was pulling double duty on this day. This match would be defended under Street Fight rules, a match McFly had never won in VCW and a match that Briggs has never lost in VCW. The match saw some pretty memorable spots including a huracanrana from Briggs, a suplex into the cement steps and ladder on McFly, a second rope Game's End and the finish saw a camel clutch by McFly which included him spitting into Briggs' mouth. Next up was Pistol Pete's first defence of the BC Title as he took on a double working Johnny Testarossa. The match looked to be over quickly after Testarossa took early control and got a pinfall after a headbutt and an F-5. However; "The Man" Matt Cruise quickly brought the offical BC Title Rule book into play as he declared no headbutts were allowed and the match was restarted, once the bell rang to signal the restart Pistol Pete used the BC title to his advantage clocking Testarossa in the head for the win. Backstage, Scott Henson and Lenny D were together and we saw Lenny comfort Scott following his breakdown after his continuing losing streak in singles matches but on a bright note Scott revealed that he has discovered Quadruple-Stuffed Oreo's. The main event was a tag team match which had a special stipulation that if Lenny D is pinned he loses the Triple Crown title. However, the match would only have a 20 minute time limit. The Miracle Violence Conspiracy of Scott Henson and Lenny D took on the debuting "Ivy League of Extraordinary Gentlemen", AC and Wordsworth. The ILEG claim to hail from Yale University, and come to the ring in sweater vests and khakis. A very back and forth match to begin things as both teams tried to feel each other out to gain an advantage however it was when Scott Henson and Lenny D were able to begin to isolate Wordsworth that they took early advantage. Wordsworth was eventually able to tag out to AC and isolate Lenny D, as they tried to capture the Triple Crown for themselves. After taking out Henson, the ILEG nailed Lenny with what they call "Hittin' the Books" (a Total Elimination with textbooks) behind the ref's back, but before the ref was able to count the pin, the 20 minute time limit expired, and Lenny retained the Triple Crown with a draw.
