- The VCW times, they are a-changin'. Our Triple Crown Champion loses the the
title in Pennsylvania, then gets knee surgery and is out for months. Our
Canadian Champion gets injured for 2 months, and the night he comes back, he
loses the title. That's right, after 11 months, Daniel Makabe is no longer your
VCW Canadian Champion. How did this happen? Let's work backward. On September
30th, we had a 5 Way (non-elimination) as sort of a preview for Survival of the
Illest the next week. After somewhat dubious tactics, Allan Creasy beat Special
K with The POUNCE. This only seemed to fire up Special K going into Illest, as
he won his qualifying match in the shortest amount of time, defeating Red Money.
Nick Price also qualified in a good match against the newly repackaged Mitch
Deppen (formerly Mercury). Tony Baroni beat Senor Cerveza with some fancy
footwork (LITERALLY), and Allan Creasy was the last qualifier, beating Scott
Henson in a match in which Creasy cheated numerous times, but actually won
cleanly in the end (though the cheating, which included belt and crutch shots,
certainly softened him up). The heat between Henson and Creasy is nowhere near
over. Though the Illest finals looked to be a 4 Way, Canadian Champion Daniel
Makabe inserted himself into it as well, under the stipulation that if he won,
he would never have to defend the title against the other 4 people in the match.
Nick Price and Tony Baroni were the first two eliminated, and after some
double-teaming by the team of Daniel Makabe and Allan Creasy on Special K,
Makabe actually agreed to let himself be pinned by Creasy for the greater good.
As Creasy went to put the finishing touches on Special K, he got rolled up out
of nowhere and Special K is your Survival of the Illest winner. Furious at the
way things turned out, Makabe stormed the ring, threw his partner Creasy out,
and said that if Special K ever wanted his title shot (earned by winning
Illest), he'd better take it right now, and the match was on. Makabe had the
upper hand the whole time, but Special K surprised him with yet another rollup,
this time the never-before-seen "Outside Cradle", and 3 seconds later, Special K
had just won his first VCW title. The next week, on October 14, Makabe enacted
his rematch clause, making it a 2-of-3 Falls Match, positive that Special K
could not beat him twice in one night. This certainly seemed the case as Makabe
won the first fall with a John Woo, leaving champion Special K to play catch-up.
He got half way there when he reversed a flying small package by Makabe for a
pinfall. He was able to pull out the other half when he locked Makabe in the
Octaclutch 5000, a cross-legged/hammerlock/armtrap variation on the Octaclutch,
forcing Makabe to tap out and proving that he is a deserving Canadian Champion.
Also on that show, Senor Cerveza picked up his first ever win in VCW, beating
Nick Price in a #1 Contendership match for the ESW World Title. Cerveza will
meet Scott Henson for the title next week, which will be Henson's first defense.
- As for upcoming supershows, F*** the Censors will be the weekend of October
27/28, and Best of the Rest VII will be the weekend of November 17/18.
