- Developments. So the big tag match finally got to happen on April 19. Henson & Yakuza's 51% controlling interest in VCW versus Daniel Makabe's Triple Crown or Special K's Canadian Title. After over half an hour of killing each other, Scott Henson was able to take Daniel Makabe out of the match with the Ka-Blamo 2K6 (hit for the first time in 2009), and was shortly thereafter taken out himself by Special K's Darkness Buster. This left only Yakuza J and Special K. K went for another Darkness Buster (which got him the win over Yakuza in their Triple Crown match last November), but Yakuza J was able to reverse it, still keeping their arms crossed, into a never-before-seen Darkness Screwdriver to pin Special K, win the Canadian Title, and keep his & Henson's 51% of VCW in their own hands. Also on the show, Kristian Drake came back after his big comeback in January to win a 3 Way Dance over Zeus McFly and Mitch Deppen. Drake is 2 and 0 now, and hopefully we'll be seeing him more frequently. After the show, Mitch Deppen approached new Canadian Champion Yakuza J and said that it looks like their match the next week wasn't for a Canadian Title SHOT anymore, but in fact the Canadian Title. Yakuza J agreed, and then promptly booted Deppen in the groin. The next week, April 25, marked 7 years of using a professional wrestling ring as we had our Anniversary Show. Daniel Makabe, thinking he wouldn't have to have a match despite being the Triple Crown Champion and it being a supershow, was approached by Scott Henson saying they needed to rekindle their tradition of matches at the Anniversary Show (a tradition observed from 2002 to 2006). Makabe agreed, saying that he could have beated Henson one-on-one in the tag match the previous week. Makabe also said the match would be on his terms: a UWFv Rules Match, favouring Makabe's submission- and strike-based style over Henson's more orthodox style. Henson hasn't had a submission victory in VCW since 2006, although that victory WAS against Makabe. Henson accepted the match, surprising Makabe, taking the title shot any way he could get it and trying to complete the taking away of power from Makabe and Special K. Makabe was then approached by Zeus McFly, asking for a match. Makabe said he would love to, but it was out of his hands as he already had a match with Henson. McFly then came to the ring, saying he needed a match. This prompted Chris Mason to accept the open challenge, and he even brought his own referee: the returning PSYCH, making his first VCW appearance since September 2008. PSYCH appeared to be favouring Mason throughout the match, but after a low blow by Mason to McFly late in the match and the call of "Do your job, ref!" by an audience member, PSYCH Superkicked Mason, allowing Zeus McFly to get the easy pinfall. For those that remember, the exact OPPOSITE of this scenario happened over 6 years ago, in December of 2002, when referee PSYCH Superkicked McFly, allowing Mason to get the pin. A match has been signed between PSYCH and Mason for next week, and if they both show, we'll actually do it! Next on the card was Yakuza J defending his newly won Canadian Title against Mitch Deppen. Yakuza used his considerable size advantage well in the early portion of the match, but the turning point came when Yakuza went for a kick on the outside, Mitch avoided it, and Yakuza kicked the ring post HARD. Deppen then went to work on the leg for the remainder of the match, hoping to set up his Ankle Lock. He wasn't able to get the Ankle Lock, but when Yakuza was going for a top rope maneuver, Deppen was able to get him down into a tree of woe type position, and then quickly locked in a Half Crab over the top rope, forcing Yakuza to quickly tap out, ending his only six day title reign, and giving Mitch Deppen his first title in VCW, after just over 5 years in the promotion. The main event was Daniel Makabe defending the VCW Triple Crown against Scott Henson in a UWFv match. Henson acclimated well to the style of the match, but perhaps got frustrated after two consecutive knockdowns on Makabe where Makabe wouldn't stay down. Henson pushed the ref out of the way and quickly set Makabe up on the top rope (unusual for this style of match). Henson called for You Sunk The World, a move he has never hit in VCW, but upon landing, Makabe was able to turn it into a sitting version of his Makabe Lock 3.141592654, forcing Henson to submit, as he was too far away to make use of his last rope break. Makabe again sarcastically said "You're welcome" to Henson, referring to him saving the Triple Crown from enemy hands at VVTW6. Henson said that it was funny because Makabe actually WOULD be showered with praise if he was one fraction less of a son of a bitch. Makabe's accomplishment's can't be denied, but his attitude makes anyone reluctant to actually acknowledge them. Zeus McFly approached Makabe after the show, asking if he could get the match he was owed next week. Makabe said yes, so in theory we'll be seeing Daniel Makabe vs. Zeus McFly (presumably for the Triple Crown) this coming Sunday. Holla.

- WE GOT ANGLES. For those who don't know, "angles" are a technical industry term for "stuff going on." And we have three primary stuffs going on. Here they are in no particular order, except importance:
1) As you know, after the title turmoil at VCW vs. The World 6, Daniel Makabe and Special K brought the Triple Crown and Canadian Titles home, respectively. After the first show back, Daniel Makabe approached Special K in the parking lot and proposed some sort of vague partnership/alliance between the two, based on their title-bringing-home skills, while simultaneously badmouthing Scott Henson and Yakuza J. Special K politely listened, but didn't seem to be having any of it. The following week, Makabe continued his pursuit of an alliance with Special K, this time blindsiding him as he came out of the bathroom, and again planting the seeds that Scott Henson and Yakuza J were not K's friends. Shortly after, K met up with Henson and Yakuza, who were very excited to see him, but it seemed this was moreso due to the fact that the Canadian Title had been won back from British hands and not the fact that K was the one who accomplished this. This didn't seem to sit particularly well with K as he left. Something Daniel Makabe said must have struck a chord with Special K, as K helped Daniel Makabe win his match against Zeus McFly after Makabe did the same for K (unsolicited) the week before. Daniel Makabe then joined K in the ring. Makabe attempted to get K to swim in the title belts in a repeat of a stunt Makabe pulled last year when he was Triple Crown Champion. K, though somewhat more receptive to Makabe, still wasn't going for this, and left. As he left, he walked right past Scott Henson and Yakuza J, ignoring them. The next week, Daniel Makabe decided to put on an exhibition grappling session with Special K, who, to be fair, agreed to it of his own volition. After several minutes of guys in underwear making close contact with one another and belt swimming was about to rear its head again, Yakuza J and Scott Henson interrupted. They demanded to know exactly what this new partnership was about and what exactly they wanted. Makabe explained that he and Special K were the two champions of VCW, and as such they should be in control of VCW, as they could run it better than it's being run now. As you may or may not know, Scott Henson and Yakuza J have had a 51% controlling interest in VCW since Andrew Poole sold his stock to Yakuza in 2006. One person who did know this was Daniel Makabe, who demanded a tag team match teaming with Special K against Yakuza and Henson, and if the Makabe/K team wins, they get the 51% controlling interest in VCW. Henson, not one to make hasty agreements, needed to even the tables if this match was going to take place, and thus countered with the stipulation that if Makabe or K gets pinned, they lose their title to whomever pinned them. Everyone agreed to the terms, and the match was set for the next show. OR WAS IT? The next week, as Scott Henson showed up psyched for the tag match, he was quickly informed by Daniel Makabe that VCW hadn't done Survival of the Illest yet in 2009 and thus were doing it this week, with the tag match postponed. However, barring any more shenanigans, the tag match WILL be happening this coming week.
2) Speaking of Survival of the Illest, we did, in fact, have it this past week. Mitch Deppen beat Senor Cerveza, Yakuza J and Special K went to a double DQ, and Daniel Makabe attacked Scott Henson outside the ring before their match even started, causing Henson to forfeit. As a result of the Yakuza/Special K double DQ, only Mitch Deppen and Daniel Makabe would be in the Finals. After an impressive kickout of the Trapper Keeper Bomb by Mitch, Yakuza J got in Daniel Makabe's face from the apron. Once Makabe got the ref to dispose of Yakuza, he turned right around into an Ankle Lock by Deppen. After several reversal attempts by Makabe, Deppen caught him off guard with a cradle to pin him for the win, making Mitch Deppen the 2009 Survival of the Illest Champion, and making Makabe a 5-time finalist, but never a champion. After the match, Mitch was excited about his impending Canadian Title shot as a result of his win, until Yakuza J informed him that one does not actually receive a shot for winning Survival of the Illest, but only for winning Best of the Rest, which Yakuza did in November and has still not cashed in. This being the case, Mitch challenged Yakuza for his Canadian Title shot. Yakuza said he was busy with the big tag match next week, but was wide open on the Anniversary show in two weeks, and he would see him there.
3) The first three shows after VVTW were the Zeus McFly show. One match on each show, and Zeus McFly in every one of those matches. Unfortunately, not on the winning end of any of those matches, although not entirely his fault. Special K interfered in his match with Daniel Makabe, causing him to lose. This is his second unsatisfying conclusion of a match with Daniel Makabe, as you'll remember that he beat Makabe by DQ in February after Makabe would not release a Heel Hook due to a rope break. Thus, the following week, McFly demanded another match with Makabe, this time for the Triple Crown. Makabe said he couldn't possibly this week (due to his grappling exhibition with Special K, but he didn't say that), but perhaps another time. Thus Zeus had to wrestle Yakuza J, and Makabe had the audacity to interfere there, resulting in another loss. Zeus boycotted Survival of the Illest as a result of this, but promises to be back next week, still fuming at Makabe.
- In other news, we should have Drew Sarian back this week, after suffering an an elbow injury losing the Canadian Title at VVTW. We also hope to have Kristian Drake back after his impressive return in January. As well, Chris Mason looks to have his first match back since VVTW, perhaps getting some revenge on Kristian Drake for that very return match. And there's the ever-present possibility of a PSYCH return. So stay tuned.
