- Happy New Year! Just kidding, anyone who says Happy New Year past January 3rd
is not the kind of person you want to be dealing with. Anyway, two December
shows to report about. On December 6, Chicho made his return to VCW taking on
Senor Cerveza in a fantastic match that saw Chicho jump off the ropes onto
Cerveza's back and hit a Canadian Destroyer without his feet touching the mat.
We'll be seeing Chicho back again this weekend in Survival of the Illest. Scott
Henson and Yakuza J took on the undefeated Richmond Horticultural Society.
Yakuza was injured very early on by a flying headscissors by Mitch Deppen, and
Scott Henson eventually succumbed to the numbers, falling to a Double
Abdominizer. As a result of his injury, Yakuza has not claimed his Canadian
Title shot yet. He will be back in action this weekend at Survival of the
Illest, but Drew Sarian is unable to make it to the show, so the title shot will
have to wait. Mitch Deppen has been making some noise that the injury was
revenge for Yakuza quickly disposing of him in the Best of the Rest tournament
the week prior. In the main event of December 6, Daniel Makabe got his Canadian
Title shot against Drew Sarian in the ladder match set up the week before. After
numerous thwarted attempts by both men to bring the ladder into the ring, it
finally made its way in, and stayed in, giving them both ample opportunity to
find ways to injure each other. After a Wheelbarrow Stunner where Sarian jumped
from off the ladder, he was able to climb the (corporate) ladder, retain the
title, and give Makabe some payback for cheating in their previous matches. On
December 28, we actually got to have a year-end show for the first time since
2005. Gotta love that. First off, Special K took on Daniel Makabe and Scott
Henson in a 3 Way Dance. The end came when Special K was building up some
momentum on Daniel Makabe and went for the Brainbuster, but Scott Henson blocked
it, causing Makabe to roll up Special K with a small package. The ref held
Henson back after his intrusion, and Henson was unable to make it back to break
up the pin. He's probably okay with Special K losing, though, even though
there's no love lost between Henson and Makabe. As you remember, Scott Henson
has a Triple Crown shot coming to him by way of his non-title win over Special K
on November 30. The main event of 2008 was Zeus McFly vs. the elusive Chris
Mason in a Relaxed Rules Match. Really relaxed, because these guys tried to kill
each other. Between Rock Bottoms on chair contraptions, White Boy Maneuvers onto
ladders, Running Bucklebombs into ladder tables, they did it all. In the end it
took two Abdominizers by Zeus McFly to get the win (his second "Main Event of
the Year" win, with his first being in 2006 with a DQ win over Nick Price).
- This weekend we've got Survival of the Illest on Saturday, with 4 or 5
qualifying matches AND the finals, and then ANOTHER show on Sunday. The
following Sunday, January 25, we've got BXCW coming up for a mini-supershow.
- Speaking of supershows, we've got one coming up that's anything but mini: VCW
vs. the World 6. It will be a two-day show taking place February 28 & March 1,
and it's looking to be on the same scale as VVTW4 (i.e. HUGE). Stay tuned.
