Addendum to Interview with Yakuza J

Why the name change?
Well, frankly, I was getting tired of the old "Man Beast" moniker. It was a throwback to the old days when I was a blind ECW mark. And as much as I enjoyed those days, I've moved on.

Tell us a little about the evolution of your style.
Well, at first I started out like a Rhyno-type clone (as the name suggested). As time wore on, puroresu slowly seeped into my style, as I started adding moves from across the Pacific (this was pretty much started when I first did an Exploder suplex to Scott back in our exhibitions in our Grad Lounge). Since then, I've grown into pretty much a hybrid of Toshiaki Kawada and Yuji Nagata, who were heavy influences in my style during 2001-2002. But, as I grew as a fan of wrestling, my style changed. Now that I'm a fan of the more technical side of wrestling, I've picked up on some techniques of the technical masters like Osamu Nishimura. I still keep true to my major style origin, as I still keep moves from my second moveset. Right now, I'm in a transition phase, but I've changed my primary finishing maneuvers to the Norhtern Lights Bomb and the Exploder '98. Since I'm a big guy, I can get away with doing these huge moves. As for my style itself, I'm an odd mix of the King's Road style, Strong Style (including Muga), and a little bit of shoot-style.

What pros have influenced you the most, and how?
As I mentioned, Rhyno was my first influence. As I continued on, my influences changed from ECW mainstays to Japanese workers. Guys like Toshiaki Kawada, Hiroshi Hase, Gen'ichiro Tenryu, Kenta Kobashi, Yuji Nagata, and those folk were heavy influences on my initial evolution. Right now, my hugest influences are the AJPW Big 5 (Kawada, Misawa, Kobashi, Taue, Akiyama), the NJPW 3 Muskateers (Chono, Mutoh, Hashimoto), and a whole bunch of random other workers. I draw a little of each worker into my style, whether it be a move, a hold, or even ring mannerisms.

Is a professional career in your future?
It's totally possible. I've certainly contemplated it, and so I'll probably look into maybe training and wrestling as a part time hobby.

Why should you be the VCW Triple Crown Champion?
Why not? I'm the biggest guy in VCW, one of the longest active members, and it's about time I won the gold back!

Last comments?
Well, despite the injuries I've gotten, I'll have to say that I'll never regret backyarding. It's one of the greatest things I've ever done, and I'll never forget the people I've met via backyarding. That's about it.
